Transporter Room 1, which is mostly used for beaming different people up and down from the Enterprise.

Jim stepped into the transporter room. They were transporting Ambassador Pax to Earth for... something. He didn't quite remember.

"Anyone requesting to beam up yet, Cortez?" he asked.

Cortez shot him a look. "If they had, I'd have beamed them up, Captain."

Jim roll his eyes. "Just beam up Ambassador Pax when she requests it."

Cortez shot the Captain another, even more 'Are you fucking with me right now?'-esque look. "That is my job, thanks." Suddenly, a small light came on, and Cortez's hand drifted over the screen. "Ensign Cortez, U.S.S. Enterprise Transporter Coordination, go."

A silence ensued as whoever it was barked into Cortez's headset. "Affirmative, one to beam aboard. Initiating Delta-5A on a 3-count. Enterprise out."

There was a click, and Cortez initiated the transporter sequence.

"One crazy old Vulcan, coming up!" he called out. The transporter whirled to life.

Jim watched as Ambassador Pax materialized on the transporter pad. "Ambassador," Jim said, smiling. "It's great to see you again."

Ambassador Pax nodded warmly at the young captain, the spitting image of a man she had known long ago. "Captain Kirk," she said. "It is a pleasure to be once more in your company. And the company of my young counterpart," she said. She nodded once more, this time at Pock.

A few seconds passed, and Pock examined them.

She then said, "You are together."

Jim blinked. Had they been alone, he probably would have flailed a little bit before answering. "How... Ambassador, I'm not sure this is the proper place for this conversation..."

Ambassador Pax's eyes were alight with amusement. "Of course, Captain," she conceded. "I am sorry. I did not mean to be inappropriate, I was merely making an observation."

Pock shifted awkwardly beside Jim, uncomfortable beneath the old woman's gaze.

Jim laughed slightly. "No harm done, Ambassador. So, rumor has it we're dropping by Earth first to pick up another Ambassador, and then we'll be on our way." Pock shifted uncomfortably beside him, and he leaned into her unconsciously, lending his support. "Any objections?"

Pax smirked slightly as Jim leaned into Pock unconsciously, an instinctive movement to comfort the obviously uncomfortable young Vulcan. It was something her Jim had done for her many times, and she for him. That thought sent a pang of sadness through her heart. It was near-daily that such a thing occurred: something made her think of Jim, her Jim, and then the pain of his loss came all over again, like an arrow piercing her chest.

"None," she said warmly. "That sounds like an amenable arrangement, so long as I am on Delta-IV in time to meet Ambassador Tal."

Jim smiled. "Shouldn't be an issue, Ambassador."

Before he could continue, the PA rang, alerting him. "Bridge to Captain Kirk."

He went over to the Comm. "Kirk here. What's up, Sulu?"

"We're clear to leave orbit. Shall we?"

"Take us out of here and plot a course to Earth. Kirk out." He turned to Pax and Pock. "Well, now that that's taken care of..."

Pock turned to her counterpart. "I am sure you are tired, Ambassador. Would you like us to show you to your rooms?"

Pax nodded amiably. "That would be wonderful, thank you."

Jim nodded. "After you then, Ambassador. We've got your regular room on here set up."
